Keeping Tahoe Safe
Since 1976
OUR MISSION
Tahoe Nordic Search & Rescue’s mission is to conduct fast, thorough, and safe rescues and to help educate the public on backcountry safety in order to reduce the number of incidents.
How to Initiate a Search & Rescue: Call 9-1-1
We work closely with a number of local agencies. All SAR’s start with a 9-1-1 call.
We are a Volunteer
Organization
Our team of volunteers is made up of EMTs, emergency room doctors and nurses, firefighters, ski patrollers, paramedics, and experienced backcountry skiers and snowmobilers who donate their time to help others. In addition to the rescue crew, a handful of our volunteers work strictly in communications, bookkeeping, dispatch, education, and equipment maintenance.
As a nonprofit organization, we are fully funded by donations from our community and by our annual fundraising event, The Great Ski Race.
Education & Resources
Preventing accidents from happening in the backcountry is the best and smartest way to ensure the safety of our community. We’ve put together a comprehensive list of resources and educational pieces.
Become a Volunteer
Our non-profit organization is made up entirely of volunteer search and rescue workers. Attend a meeting to learn more about our team and how you can get involved.
The Great Ski Race
The primary fundraiser for Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue, the Great Ski Race, held in March each year, is one of the largest Nordic ski races in the West. Proceeds from the event are used to purchase critical equipment for the team, support education programs, conduct trainings, and more.
